Name: Marianne Faithfull Occupation: Singer/songwriter, actress, muse Claim to fame: She began as a chanteuse in the 60's, but her music became secondary to her colorful personal life. Sex, drugs and rock and roll ruled this ladies life for a long time and her long-term relationships with Mick Jagger and heroin took center stage for awhile. Though she was dealt some rough cards, she managed to overcome her demons and return to music...
Greetings Earthlings, Azil here. Haley and I had another rooftop photo-shoot. It was a beautiful, warm, September evening, and I had the urge to shoot. The lighting was this pretty pink-gray colour and I couldn't resist. The fruits of a lazy fall afternoon, with Haley Grossmith, who rocks any vintage look...
Aside from our passion for vintage fashion, gems and stones - there is another love we hold very dear to us. That love is music. So on top of blogging about our fashion finds and inspiration, we will from time to time introduce you to some of our favorite artists in hopes that you will love them as much as we do!
First up, Winnipeg darlings THE DUHKS. Now this is an act that simply cannot be summed up in one genre. They are an eclectic blend of everything from bluegrass to afro-beat to folk to world music. Musicianship? Fantastic... but the voice of singer Sara Dugas is simply other-worldly. After finally seeing them live last night, Allison has come to the decision that Sara cannot actually be human.
and also here (especially when it picks up in the second half):
Here's a little taste of the results of our fantastic first photo shoot! We'd like to give tonnes of love to our model and friend, Sarah who turned out some fab fab pictures! These dresses and more will be available upon the launch of the online store! (I promise we're working as hard as we can on getting that sucker together!)
Name: Pattie Boyd Occupation: Model, Rock and Roll wife, muse Claim to fame: Married both George Harrison and Eric Clapton and inspired Harrison's Something, and Clapton's Layla and Wonderful Tonight... obviously the girl's got some serious mojo
You might be wondering who we are, where we came from and why we're here...
We are two crazy gals that are in the process of building an online vintage clothing and reworked jewelry store - and we thought it would be fun to have a blog to go along with it!
For now you can follow us as we gather trinkets, make jewelry, have photo shoots and set up our store! We'll let you in on our finds, our inspiration, and our adventures!
Once the store is launched you will be able to keep tabs on us and see the latest items before they're posted to the store!
We've just moved into a beautiful penthouse apartment in the High Park area of Toronto and we are busying ourselves with turning it into a cozy, trinket-laden wonderland! We've dubbed the digs Chateau '73 and are on the hunt for decor to make the name ring true! Vintage lace, bottles, art, knick knacks - we want it all, and you get to come along for the ride!
Here's some photographs of the place bare bones - pre-chateau makeover: We had a successful mission to a thrift shop on the outskirts of town last night. Bought some bits and pieces that are sure to spruce up the place...
Name: Allison Occupation: Vintage Junkie and Jill of too many trades.
The fashion trend you'll never catch me in: crocks
The one food I simply cannot resist: cheese - it's the one reason I'm not a vegan.
I'm deathly afraid of: deep water - have you seen the things that live down there?
If you opened my purse right now you'd find: my crackberry (can't leave the house without it), loose change (constantly forgetting to zip up the change pocket on my wallet), assorted MAC makeup (a big weakness)
My first ever celebrity crush was: Peter Gabriel
My favorite place to shop: Value Village - I love to spend hours sifting through their racks - I've found so many incredible pieces!
The book I'm reading now: "Wonderful Tonight" - Pattie Boyd
The movie I could watch over and over: Almost Famous
The song I will always sing at karaoke: Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar
The best item of clothing I own: Either this incredible vintage sheer pastel patchwork maxidress or a wicked black suede figure-hugging number with long fringe from the neckline to just under the bust. The best part? Neither cost me more than $10!!!
The band I love seeing live: The Black Crowes
My favorite gem, bead or stone: Turquoise. I'm such a hippie.
The celebrity's style I most admire: I really love the casual boho style of stars like Kate Hudson and Nicole Richie.
If I could live in another decade it would be: The 70's - specifically 1973.
What's on my ipod right now: The Dead Weather, The Parlor Mob, Dirty Sweet, Kasabian
Vintage Heart is the brain-child of two kooky, vintage-loving, jewelry obsessed, like-minded girls from Toronto, Canada who came together when they were each desperately seeking a roommate. In each other they found more than just someone to share a space, but also a kindred spirit and a business partner. Between Allison's knack for vintage-hunting and Azil's fantastic jewelry-making skills, Vintage Heart was born. The VH girls are currently working on building their online store as well as turning their Penthouse apartment in the west end into a cozy, trinket-filled nest of creativity!
